Hi there! I’m Kimberly Laurel, a word-obsessed editor from Upstate New York. I specialize in developmental editing, copy / line editing, proofreading, and manuscript critiquing (beta reading) for both fiction and nonfiction manuscripts.
I’ve been running The Trusty Bookmark for over two years now, helping authors with all aspects of the manuscript editing process. I am well versed in The Chicago Manual of Style and constantly strive to fine-tune my skills through frequent courses, online classes, and self-paced studying.
Through The Trusty Bookmark, I aim to provide writers with useful tips and advice they can apply during their writing and self-editing process. In blog posts and my Insider Scoop newsletter, I cover various topics within the subjects of writing performance, the craft of writing, and the editing process.
When you’ve reached the point of needing a professional editor’s eye on your work, I offer a number of editing services as your manuscript requires.
My Editing Approach
I believe in partnering with authors to preserve your voice while ensuring clarity and a polished final product. I strive to understand *why* you’ve written this story as well as your editing and manuscript goals.
With a vast consumption of works across all genres, strong attention to detail, and obsession with correct grammar and syntax, I meticulously tackle your manuscript. I provide both positive and constructive feedback, while offering suggested solutions for the latter.
I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), a national professional organization for editors in the United States. My profile can be found here.
Social Media & More
When I’m not helping clients, I’m being dragged down the street by my giant breed dog, attempting to Kondo-ize my life, or collecting giant mugs from which I drink way too much tea.
Come find me on social media (@trustybookmark) for easily digestible snippets of writing advice, a behind-the-screen view of my work/life, and (of course) bookish chatter!
