Hi there! I’m Kimberly Laurel, a word-obsessed editor from Upstate New York. I specialize in developmental editing, copy / line editing, proofreading, and manuscript critiquing (beta reading) for both fiction and nonfiction manuscripts.
I’ve been running The Trusty Bookmark for over two years now, helping authors with all aspects of the manuscript editing process. I am well versed in The Chicago Manual of Style and constantly strive to fine-tune my skills through frequent courses, online classes, and self-paced studying.
My objective is to support you in publishing your book with confidence. To that end, I provide help at all stages of the writing process.
When you’re ready for a professional editor’s eye on your work, I offer a number of editing services so you feel confident in the work you are putting out into the world.
My Editing Approach
I believe in partnering with authors to preserve your voice and vision while ensuring clarity and a polished final product. I strive to understand *why* you’ve written this story as well as your editing and manuscript goals. (Find out more about my editing philosophy here!)
With a vast consumption of works across all genres, strong attention to detail, and obsession with correct grammar and syntax, I meticulously work through your manuscript. I provide both positive and constructive feedback, while offering suggested solutions for the latter.
I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), a national professional organization for editors in the United States. You can find my profile here.
Emails, Social Media, and More
When I’m not helping clients or developing content, I’m being dragged down the street by my giant breed dog, attempting to Kondo-ize my life, or collecting giant mugs from which I drink way too much tea.
